AN ODE TO NO ONE A/W 11 COLLECTION | EVIDENCE OF EVOLUTION

On Thursday night, I attended An Ode To No One's A/W 11 Collection at a cool basement space - District 01. With the company of my buddies - Emily, Dana and Xiaohan, we were given 3D glasses to look at the prints while the room was filled with fluro lights.

The collection is inspired by Charles Darwin’s theories on evolution with a modern twist. We have seen 3D movies, 3D in magazines and billboards last year, but now, designer of An Ode To No One - Adi , steps it up by creating a 3D digital print with what seems to be like butterfly's wings or some winged creatures in pink, blue, red and purple which stimulates the eyes.

I would love to try those leggings! You know me and love of black with prints!

ck one | SS11 CAMPAIGN | STEVEN MEISEL

This is Calvin Klein's teaser of one of the biggest digital interactive for ck one launching on March 1st, across a whole range of mediums including online, print, outdoor and mobile. The campaign is shot by one of our favourite photographers, Steven Meisel, who also shot the original campaigns of ck one back in 1994. It will be huge! The campaign will include over 30 individuals of both men and women that represent our generation and celebrating individuality. Big names include Lara Stone, Abbey Lee Kershaw, and Bambi Northwood-Blyth.

“The ck one collection is not about wearing clothes the way you’ve been told, it’s about making them your own. We put the pieces in there in all sizes, from XXXL to XS; it’s not about the perfect size - it’s a play on proportion and androgyny,” Kevin Carrigan, the global creative director of Calvin Klein Jeans and ck Calvin Klein, explains to Vogue. “Girls were wearing jeans that were baggy and far too big, or wearing oversized shirts as dresses, they made the collection their own.”

It is an experimental global campaign where people can connect, creating conversations on platforms like Facebook, creating and uploading their own videos which becomes part of the campaign. This is a great idea as the social online media is growing rapidly and Calvin Klein is such a modern brand that is keeping up and listening to their buyers and audiences.

I think it's quite smart to use such a simple concept and diverse individuals in the campaign where everyone will find a connection no matter race,, culture, gender, age, style, interests, etc. It is a powerful marketing tool that I think will be quite successful, giving the opportunity to the audience the ability to participate.

    Personally love these videos!

    WWD:
"Calvin Klein Inc., which is turning ck one into a full lifestyle brand, has conceived a global advertising campaign for spring that encompasses TV, print, the Internet and social media — all things that concern ck one’s targeted customer.

CKI declined to disclose the cost of the campaign, but said it is the largest digital initiative in its history. Directed by Steven Meisel, who did the original ck one fragrance campaign with Kate Moss and a gaggle of other Nineties faces, the new black-and-white ads are an evolution in the spirit of the current generation, centered around the new ckone.com site.

CRK Advertising and consulting creative director Fabien Baron conceived the ad. There are four different iterations — for Jeans, Underwear, Fragrance and one for all categories — with more than 60 differently edited variations, some of which specifically target Asia. A key purpose is to drive traffic to ckone.com, which offers profiles of the cast and background content, and lets visitors upload their own ck one video versions. The site, available in 11 languages, will also have a global store, and custom mobile apps available for the iPhone, Android and Symbian."

JULIAN @THEAGENCY

Last Sunday, I shot Julian, a new comer to modelling from The Agency. Coincidentally we went to the same school and we kind of remember each other, since we both played music. The world is small! I took quite a lot of shots and let him experiment with different positions and be comfortable in front of the camera, as that can be quite awkward for most models who have just come in.

Let me know what you guys think of the shots? and yes I know there is a lot of skin. I would love to hear feedback!

COMUNE CAFÉ RACER COMPETITION | AT GENERAL PANTS CO.

Comune is a new street label that has just landed in General Pants Co. and they are giving away custom made café racer. What captured me was the motorbike, although I'm not a motorbike rider, I think it looks pretty awesome and separates you from the rest of the common riders. I always think motorcycles are one of the cool props used in photoshoots and I mean, if you're a regular bike rider then you got to look into this competition. The apparel is basic with prints and it would be cool just to wear out casually.

Read the press release for more information about the competition and how to win the bike below.

"To celebrate the Australian launch of the hit menswear label, a killer custom COMUNE café racer motorbike, as built with pride by the crew at Scotts Bikes, is up for keeps.

Originating from California, COMUNE is a contemporary street and creative culture brand that was formed from the idea that there will always be people out there who not only embrace the rawness and imperfections of the everyday life, but use it to creatively push the boundaries of what’s possible in skateboarding, fashion, art, and music their own way, with complete disregard of the consequences.

The goal of COMUNE is to provide clothing that reflects this lifestyle of carefree idealism and to support the people that choose to live it.

To win the COMUNE café racer, road registered, slide into any product from the COMUNE range and Google Map your Ultimate Motorbike Trip and identify who you would have on the back of the bike with you. The most creative trip as judged by the crew at COMUNE and General Pants Co will win.

COMUNE is available in stores and online at generalpants.com.au this coming Tuesday, February 8, 2011.

Submit entries for the COMUNE café racer www.generalpants.com.au/COMUNE from Tuesday, February 8, 2011.
    Entries close 5.00PM EST Wednesday, March 9, 2011. "

INTERVIEW | JUSTIN VIOLINI

Justin Violini, 27 year old creative, with close relationships with many designers and talents in the fashion industry, has been a buyer at Gilt Groupe and now freelancing as a stylist, consultant, brand developer and production. He recently just picked up photography and is now currently also working on his own project The FEARLESS PROJECT. His photography shows youth and his polaroids remind me a bit of Jeremy Kost.

Read his interview to see how he is caught up in the fashion industry, his projects and how he got into photography.

NEUW DENIM SHOWING | BLACK COLOUR

Last Tuesday I was invited to the NEUW denim showing at LO-FI. Upon meeting Richard Bell, one of the founders of the label, I was first shown their video for the Black Colour collection, which was of course quite dark. NEUW, unlike traditional denim, has a black thread that runs through the weave creating depth of colour, so the wearing won't fade but become darker. In addition, the black colour fabric is woven on original wide American Looms from one of the oldest and only lasting factory that exists now.

They are inspired by an extensive vintage range of denim collected that contains iconic pieces from the last 100 years of denim history. Pictured above is the Boy's Iggy Skinny. I do like their use of colour and especially love the burgundy and leather. The fit is great and trying them on myself, it has the comfort of pulling on a pair of tracksuit pants, but gives a skinny look. I'm definitely getting a pair! You should too as they hit international grounds in the coming months.

WRANGLER AUTUMN/WINTER 11 LOOKBOOK

    Photographer: Travis Grace
    Stylist: Tamila Purvis
Models: Emma Ishta @ Viviens & Vinnie Woolston @ Priscillas

This is Wrangler's new Autumn/Winter 11 collection. I do quite like that how it has gone a bit darker and colder in this season's lookbook, moving away from the sun saturated images of the Spring Summer 10/11 campaign previous.

I am a fan of their denim owning 2 pairs of their Wrangler Stranglers. They do make your legs look skinnier and the colours and washes are always staple.

I posted one of the women's look, as I do love the jumper and the dress combination. Vinnie Woolston the male model is also great for Wrangler feel. Always a bit alternative, indie with tattoos and mid length hair. I like the look.
